The BFI Creative Challenge Fund aims to decentralise project development and stimulate a healthier, wider ecosystem by funding a mosaic of interventions across the UK that touch underserved areas in the screen industry.

The Fund has allocated £3m of National Lottery over three years to support programmes focusing on project development along with the talent development and growth of creative practice.

Challenge 1: Increasing opportunities for UK creatives to attend feature film and immersive project development programmes

BFI are seeking organisations to design and run development programmes for UK creatives who have narrative, documentary or animation feature film projects or narrative immersive media projects.

BFI want to ensure everyone can create original screen work, from first-time creators to world-class professionals. All funded activities they support should contribute to at least five of the following aims identified in the BFI National Lottery strategy outcomes.

  • creative talent is supported and nurtured, as they emerge and throughout their careers
  • people are better enabled to innovate and experiment creatively
  • a wider range of stories on screen are told that otherwise wouldn’t be
  • people from under-represented groups across the UK can access the support they need to develop their careers and skills
  • a broader range of organisations supported by the fund, breaking down historic barriers to funding
  • screen organisations have significantly reduced their carbon footprint.
