Criteria

The Mackintosh Foundation was founded in 1988 with the majority of the funding received by the Foundation coming from the personal patronage of Sir Cameron Mackintosh.

The majority of funding is for work in the theatre and performing arts.

However, a smaller amount of funding is also awarded for charitable work that addresses the following types of activity in Great Britain:

  • Children and education
  • Community projects
  • The environment
  • The homeless
  • Medical

Most grants are in the £1,000 to £5,000 range; however, both smaller and much larger grants are awarded.

The Foundation awards around 100 grants to charitable organisations each year.

  • Leicester Theatre Trust
  • Project Rozana UK
  • Roundhouse Trust
  • Sheffield Theatres Trust
  • Theatre Royal Plymouth
  • The Royal Exchange Theatre Company
  • The Trussel Trust
  • Wilderness Foundation UK

The Foundation does not maintain a website.

Applications can be made at any time by writing to the Foundation; however, applications may be considered once a year at the Trustees’ annual meeting.
