Criteria

The Charlotte Aitken Trust, a registered charity, is dedicated to the support of literature, writing and reading. It is funded by the estate of the celebrated literary agent Gillon Aitken (1938-2016) in the name of his only daughter Charlotte, who died in 2011 at the age of 27. The Trust awards a small number of grants each to non-profit organisations within the UK whose work addresses the aims of the Trust which are to:

  • Advance the education of the public in the subject of literature.
  • Promote the creative arts for the public benefit, especially literature, whether fiction, non-fiction drama or poetry.

Grant amount: discretionary (previous grants ranged between £3,000 and £50,000)

Deadline: funding opens on 1 April 2026 for a period of one month and then opens again on 1 September 2026.
